How To Create More Success In Your Business

How do you know when you’ve succeeded? How do you know when you are in the processing of succeeding, when you’re headed in the right direction?

Goal setting is usually something we do, but rarely follow through on. Or we make goals so lofty and far into the future, that we just cross our fingers and hope they come true.

A few years ago, I was in a place where I was fed up of hoping and wishing that my life would look a certain way. I set off on a mission to find out exactly what it takes to be successful and complete my goals.

Success does not have a universal standard. We each create our own meaning of what success is. The beauty in this is that if we can define what success is, we can have more of it. If your standard for success is too high and you’re feeling unsuccessful, then this is great news for you. Here’s how you can start creating more success.

1. Break down your bigger goals into smaller, actionable steps. If you want to complete a certain goal in a year, create one to three doable things each month that will get you there. Then break down those things into one to three doable things each week and one to three doable things each day. Here’s an example if you want to save some money:

Big Goal

Save $12,000 in the next year

This Month

Save $1,000

Sign up for a webinar on overcoming money blocks

Ask the boss for a raise

This Week

Create a weekly spending plan

Email boss to set up a meeting asking for a raise

Open a savings account

Today

Pack a lunch instead of going out

Create my weekly spending plan

Brainstorm why I deserve a raise and how I’ve contributed to the company

This is a basic example, but you can see how the tasks for today are super easy to check off your to do list and that they are moving you in the direction of the big goal. It may take you a little more time planning out your goal than it would to just come up with your yearly or monthly goal, but your chances of success will be infinitely higher. It’s worth it to take the time.

2. Build in your wins. The key I discovered is that the people that are the most successful are winning (successful) all the time. Success breeds more success. When you feel like you are succeeding all the time, you do. Even if it’s small, like opening a bottle of champagne at the end of the week. Big success is built on a whole bunch of little wins.

So what do you do if some of your steps are unsuccessful? Its bound to happen. From the example above, your boss says no to your request for a raise. You pitch to a dozen new clients and each one says no. Don’t get down, because it’s still a win because you put yourself out there. Now, your boss knows you are looking for more responsibility and more money. Your prospective clients know what kind of business you’re looking to do. These small noes could lead to bigger yeses down the road. Don’t let yourself get discouraged, it’s just part of the process.

Do you have any big goals you’re ready to break down right now to create smaller wins? What do you currently do to celebrate your small wins? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
